Item Price Update From Excel

This tool allows you to easily update Macola prices from an Excel spreadsheet.

The spreadsheet is required to have columns titled "Item_no" and "Price", "Cost" and "Remarks". The "Cost" and "Remarks" columns can be blank. Once installed, the tool allows the user to browse and locate the incoming Excel file and click a button to update the prices in Macola. It maintains a log of every price update performed using this tool and captures the previous price, new price, item number, location, as well as user name and a date time stamp. The tool relies on a built-in data transformation (DTS) package to transfer the Excel data to the SQL server, ensuring fast processing of even large excel files. The current version was developed for a client with only one location for every item therefore the program updates the prices at the default item location. This can be easily modified so that the incoming file could have one more column for location. The program performs basic validation and checks for the existence of items and locations specified in the incoming file. The cost update feature currently updates the standard cost as well as the negotiated price for the primary vendor, if one exists. It works for this client because the inventory costing method happens to be different from "PO Cost Entry". For sites where PO Cost entry is the same as inventory costing method, this cost update feature can be disabled in order to prevent revaluation of existing inventory by using this tool. While not tested for Macola Progression, owing to the similarity of the Inventory table structures, the tool may work with minor modifications.
